Russia expressed disappointment over Canada’s decision to impose more actions over it. Additionally, Moscow vowed “revenge” against such decision saying that Canada is not improving international cooperation rather it is increasing the tensions.

Moscow recently said that it will result to retaliatory measures following Canada’s sanctions. The country’s sanctions list was lengthened following its aggression against Ukraine.

“Contrary to the commitments declared by the new government of Justin Trudeau to cooperate on the international stage, Ottawa continues to whip up tension,” Ukraine Today quoted Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Furthermore, Moscow also accused Ottawa of looking at Washington’s directions whenever it needs to decide. Russia emphasized that such decisions will correspond to “unfriendly” moves.

“The new Canadian authorities had a chance to overcome the impasse inherited from the previous government – but Ottawa did not use it. This unfriendly move will not be left without a response – our countermeasures are to follow,” the ministry added in the statement.

Canada released an expanded list including entities and individuals with frozen assets and trade bans. The sanctions will be in place until Russia is amenable to comply with its international duty in relation to Ukraine.

However, possibly contrary to what most countries believe, imposing sanctions on Russia will not change the country’s position on reunification with Crimea and Sevastopol, according to a senior parliamentarian from the Federation Council.

“For us, this issue [reunification with Crimea and Sevastopol] is over once and for all. And no sanctions or additional demands to Russia will change it,” TASS quoted Viktor Ozerov, who is also the chairman of the Russian upper house’s committee for defense and security.

“As for return of Crimea and Sevastopol, nobody should have illusions that the citizens of Crimea and Sevastopol or the Russian society could review this decision,” the official added. He also explained that reunification was under strict compliance with the Russian Constitution and other international documents.
