David Cameron: Panama Papers

Panama has long been a haven for money launderers—including the CIA. Panama has been a widely-used tax haven for nearly a century,   that has evolved into a complex relationship between the country’s banking, legal and financing sectors.

.

Dummy companies   set up by the White House and registered in Panama, were used to float the Nicaraguan Contras. Noriega’s personal Swiss-based lawyer even helped Marine Colonel Oliver North construct a front for an airfield in Costa Rica. A veritable fleet of aircraft, including planes provided by Noriega and some paid for through a BCCI account, made the circuitous journey from secret runway to secret runway, dropping off weapons in Honduras and Costa Rica, cocaine in the southern United States, and large stacks of small-denomination bills in Panamanian bank vaults.

.

That long, secretive history came crashing out this week with the release of the Panama Papers, which revealed exactly how Panama has created conditions for foreigners to hide their assets through corporations there.

.

Several other countries allow foreigners to hide their assets, but few are as well-positioned to do so as Panama. The 11.5 million leaked documents hacked from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca revealed how world leaders, their relatives and their associates keep business dealings and vast sums of money hidden in off-shore accounts.

.

So far, the revelations have brought down the prime minister of Iceland, the CEO of an Austrian bank and prompted many other financial investigations around the world.

.

Russian President Vladimir says the Panama Papers release are a part of U.S. plot to weaken Russia. ‘They are trying to destabilize us from within in order to make us more compliant’: Russian president.   Putin  denied having any links to offshore accounts. there is no direct link to him even. Instead others have been revealed.. Putin contended that Washington has fanned allegations of Russian official corruption in order to weaken Moscow as the U.S. has become concerned about Russia’s growing economic and military might. In Russia, the state media  the false  allegations about Putin have either been played down or portrayed as part of an attempt to undermine the ruling elite before parliamentary elections later this year.  Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, has dismissed the allegations as the result of ‘Putinophobia’ and said that the journalistic consortium behind the Panama Papers included ‘many former state department and CIA employees, as well as those of other intelligence services’

.

Iceland picked a new prime minister as a direct result of the Panama Papers and Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain admitted that he had profited from an offshore trust. Twelve national leaders are among 143 politicians, their families and close associates from around the world known to have been using offshore tax havens. A key member of Fifa’s powerful ethics committee, which is supposed to be spearheading reform at world football’s scandal-hit governing body, acted as a lawyer for individuals and companies recently charged with bribery.

.

Since becoming the prime minister of Britain, David Cameron has condemned wealthy individuals who set up complicated offshore accounts to avoid paying British taxes, saying these tax evaders would have “nowhere to hide.” Now, revelations from the Panama Papers show that Mr. Cameron profited from an offshore investment fund, Blairmore Holdings, which was run by his father and never paid taxes in Britain.. In the midst of the largest data leak in history, the Panama Papers , David Cameron was forced into a corner over his family’s wealth and accusations   he admits that he profited from his father’s stakes in an offshore investment company, Blairmore Holdings Ltd. There hasn’t been any suggestion that what Cameron did was illegal, but, needless to say, it’s not a “good look” for a head of state to have been discovered dodging his own country’s tax collectors.

.

David Cameron’s ‘hypocrisy’ is also evident after he ordered all parliamentary candidates to reveal their tax affairs. David Cameron has been accused of “hypocrisy” by Tory MPs after it emerged he ordered all parliamentary candidates to reveal their tax affairs just months after selling off his stake in an offshore trust for £30,000. Conservative Party’s candidates for the 2010 general election were told to reveal private details of their financial situation and promise to pay full UK tax while in Parliament. Plagued by these offshore scandals and revelations, the Prime Minister has been peppered by criticism nd  his public approval ratings  fell below Jeremy Corbyn’s for the first time since the Labour leader was elected in September. The revelation that Cameron’s own family had benefited from a similar loophole not only makes him seem like a hypocrite, it also contributes to a sense that he and his governing Conservative Party live in a different world to ordinary British taxpayers.

.

The Panama Papers were also embarrassing for Mr. Cameron because they identified the British Virgin Islands, an overseas territory of Britain, as a major center of offshore activity.

.

A U.S. businessman convicted of traveling to Russia to have sex with underage orphans signed papers for an offshore company while he was serving his prison sentence in New Jersey, the records show.  Many wonder why there are not more  major American names in the  Panama Papers . Don’t tell me they are not also corrupt.

.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was also mentioned in these Panama papers. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, had  even positioned himself as a reformer in a country shaken by corruption scandals.

One of FIFA’s ethics committee members, the Uruguayan attorney Pedro Damiani, is facing an internal investigation by the world soccer association after revelations from the Panama Papers. Damiani’s law firm manages offshore companies, including several that may have been used to pay bribes in the corruption scandal that has led to the arrests of top FIFA officials,

Panama Papers expose Pakistan’s embattled prime minister to allegations of corruption. While analysts said that maintaining offshore bank accounts may be legal under Pakistani laws, the practice could expose the country’s wealthy political elite to fresh allegations of corruption and money laundering in a country in which more than half the people live on less than $2 a day..

Panama Papers Hit Bachchan, Adani But Also Xi.

.

It was revealed that  several Indians — including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Sameer Gehlaut, KP Singh, and over 500 others — have offshore entities in tax havens around the world.

.

The files reveal offshore companies linked to the family of China’s top leader, Xi Jinping, who has vowed to fight “armies of corruption,” The families of at least eight current and former members of China’s supreme ruling body, the politburo, have been found to have hidden wealth offshore.

.

The world’s best soccer player, Lionel Messi, is also found in the documents.   The records show Messi and his father were owners of a Panama company: Mega Star Enterprises Inc. This adds a new name to the list of shell companies known to be linked to Messi. His offshore dealings are currently the target of a tax evasion case in Spain.
